Evan entered the TACHE Science Fair in the fall with his P-LED (Potato-Light Emitting Device) project. He and his daddy figured out how to create a potato battery with some wire, a galvanized nail, and a potato. It created nearly 4 volts of electricity and lit up a little LED light bulb!
We were so proud that he placed at the local level and found out that he qualified to compete in the East Texas State Fair Academic Rodeo! That competition was at the beginning of February. He not only had to have his project, backboard display, and his research folder, but he also had to interview with the judges. Evidently, he did well because he won FIRST place in the Middle School Chemistry/Physical Science Division!
We enjoyed watching him get recognized at the Awards Assembly in Tyler. He, on the other hand, was a bit nervous. But once it was over & he had the medal around his neck, he walked around with a proud smile!
Of course, Ethan was more interested in me taking a picture of his gum
than he was watching his brother get an award!
I'm so thankful for opportunities such as these with the Tyler Homeschool group! And we were so excited that our friends, Grant, Cassidy, and Kim Parker, came to the awards ceremony to see Evan. Of course, we had to celebrate at Olive Garden, one of our family favorites!
Congrats! to Evan! good Job! and these pics were so cute, and that Ethan is so adorable!
ReplyDeleteCongrats!! Really neat project! Yummm Olive Garden! I was remembering my childhood of science projects. I did not do many but I remember the thrill of winning at my school. Keep it up!
ReplyDeleteI'm proud of Evan and grateful for the great job you do in educating our sons. It was nice to have the Parkers celebrate with us too! God is great!!!
