Warrior Prayers -- Day One

21 Days of Prayer for our Sons…

I’m so excited to be a part of a group of nearly 1000 moms that have committed to praying specific prayers for our boys for the next 3 weeks!

It would be to your benefit to purchase the ebook Warrior Prayers: Praying the Word for Boys in the Areas They Need it Most. It’s a very good value (only $5.97). It’s full of scripture prayers to pray for your children. We will take one area to pray for each day.

First, let’s introduce ourselves…

Please leave a comment below telling us a little about who you are and a little about your children
.

I’ll go first:

I am a wife to a music minister and the mom of two handsome boys—Evan (12) and Ethan (4 ½). We have enjoyed spending the last year together getting used to our new world of homeschooling. Until this year, I taught high school math for the past 17 years. I love learning, doing Bible studies, crafty things like scrapbooking & taking pictures, and I LOVE to cook—especially anything sweet!

Now to the prayer challenge for the day…

Today’s Prayer is on OBEDIENCE!

In her book, Brooke makes the comment that if “a man can’t submit to Jesus, he cannot lead you. A man must be willing to be led before he can truly lead.”

Because of this, we must train our sons to obey us as parents. It is not an option. “Scripture is full of warnings for parents and children alike who neglect this important detail. And in the teaching of obedience lies ones of the most glorious opportunities to prove the Gospel message to our sons.”

“Depending on what methods we use, we CAN make our sons obey. We can MAKE them obey us. But at the risk of sounding a little lazier than I really am as a parent I would submit this:

“Obeying God is intimately linked to loving Him. If we focus too much on forcing our boys to change their outward behavior, and forget to hold out the great depth of love that sent a Savior to the cross, we’re running the risk of raising little Pharisees.”

Please commit to praying the scripture prayers on OBEDIENCE (page 15 in the ebook). I am planning to write these prayers out & personalizing them with Evan’s & Ethan’s names in a notecard spiral. That way I’ll be able to carry them with me wherever I go (kind of like my Memory Verse Spiral).

If you don’t have your ebook yet, here are the scripture references:
Jeremiah 42:6
Ephesians 6:1
Hebrews 13:17
Acts 5:29
Deuteronomy 30:2
Deuteronomy 13:4
Jeremiah 26:13
John 15:10
John 14:15
Romans 16:19

Here are 4 suggestions to help you pray throughout the day:

1. Get up early to bathe your sons in prayer first thing in the morning.
2. Pray the prayers one at a time throughout the day.
3. Make the prayers a part of your family devotion time, praying the prayers out loud over your sons.
4. Spend some time in concentrated prayer late at night, around bed time.

I can’t wait to read all about each of you & your children! Enjoy praying today!

“The fervent prayers of a righteous man avails much.” James 5:17

  1. I am Kimmy's sister (our leader). I am no longer a wife as of April 8th of this year. I am a first grade teacher and just finished my twenty-first year. I have a daughter, Mauri Grace (19) and a son, Caleb (16). We've gone through a lot of transition this past year with my ex-husband moving out in November and my precious first born going off to college last August. I do not want my children to follow in the footsteps of their father. I want them to fall in love with Jesus and never let go. I want them to live obediently to God's way for their lives not man's way. I enjoy doing Bible studies, reading a little, and just hanging out with my children. I can't wait to see what God has in store for our sons (and daughters) through this special time.

  2. Hi
I am Barbara. I am a retired Reading Recovery teacher. I have 4 children, 3 girls and 1 boy. Two of my girls are married and the 3rd will be married in October. My son is 25, the youngest, and in great need of prayer. I realize that I may be the mom of one of the oldest boys but again, he needs the prayer. I have one granddaughter and one grandson. He just turned 1 and I think I'll include him also.

  3. Hi, I'm Amy and I have 3 boys, ages 8, 7, and 2. They keep me busy and try my patience daily. I pray often and give God credit for any good I see in my kids. Looking forward to this prayer challenge and getting to know other moms in the process.

My husband and I have been married for 18 years. As a family, we love all kinds of sporting events and camping. Myself, I love a good book or just relaxing and doing nothing! Kim, I felt drawn to this group immediately. Looking forward to the journey!

  9. Hello, everyone!
My name is Angie. I have 4 children---3 boys (ages 22, 15, and 10) and 1 daughter (8). So yes, Jana, I do believe God has a sense of humor in regard to age spans!!!

I have known Penny for several years (she's awesome!), and I met Kim (our esteemed leader) last fall.

I am thankful God chose to entrust me with the lives of my sweet (most of the time!) kiddos, and I look forward to the opportunity to specifically pray for my boys. My oldest has gone through some very difficult rebellious periods, and I hope God will use my prayers in this study to pull that son back into relationship with HIM. As for my younger guys, I simply seek to find more creative, specific ways to pray them into becoming the godly men and future leaders God wants them to be.

  10. Hi ladies! I am Monica and I taught math for 9 years and I am currently staying home with my children. I have a 9 year old son and a 5 year old daughter. My son and I leave for Centri kids tomorrow. My prayer is that he would come to know and accept Jesus this week. Sorry I am just now posting but we are on our way back from Disney and for some reason my email didn't come through. I am excited about this journey!
